A day at the zoo

Yesterday, I spent the morning at Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia with my parents, sister, brother-in-law, and nephew. (along with about 50 schools on a field trip)

We started at the Aquarium. It reminded me of snorkeling and swimming with fish on vacation, only two weeks ago.

Lions and tigers

Reid was excited to take a ride on the carousel. He ended up choosing to ride on the tiger.

After a short visit to the playground, he came back to the carousel and wanted to ride again.

Next we stopped for lunch, and we had a view of the monkeys, who were busy swinging.

Train Ride with Granddaddy.

I thought Reid was brave to feed the goats.

At Granddaddy’s favorite: the tortoises.

We were pretty sure this elephant (below) is pregnant. A few times she showed off her ears, but I only managed to get her showing off one ear at a time. She was eating constantly while we observed her.

I couldn’t get a good picture of the gorilla, because of the glass wall separating us. But it was really cool to see a gorilla this close! My guess is that he was extremely annoyed by all of the school children banging on the glass, trying to get him to move around.
